Calls continued relief critical for jobs,
asks Congress to provide certainty to employers, families

LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today called on the House of Representatives to pass a full extension of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts before it adjourns for its summer break on Friday by issuing the following statement:

“In just 155 days, tax relief for American families and small businesses is set to expire, resulting in the largest tax increase in our nation’s history--another blow to private sector job creation. We can’t afford for Congress to take a six week vacation while employers and families try to make fiscal decisions without knowing if their taxes will be going up at the end of the year. Speaker Pelosi and the House leadership need to provide certainty to Americans by extending all of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts before they leave on Friday for summer break. If they do not, I call on Speaker Pelosi to keep the House in session until the tax relief extension, which is critical for jobs, passes.”

Our nation runs the risk of losing our place of primacy due to our runaway deficit spending and growing national debt that is financed by foreign powers. Our government must focus on reducing the debt.

Our nation’s strength has been based on our freedom and prosperity. The sooner we get our financial house in order, the stronger our foundation will be and the more durable our position of leadership.

This November, Arkansans will be presented with a choice and an opportunity at the ballot box. The choice is simple.  Who will we elect to represent us in Congress?  Will we elect the candidate who will fight to maintain American Exceptionalism and be a check and balance against the free-spending, debt-increasing agenda of Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Obama?  I invite you to join my campaign and help me be that check and balance.

Note: The New York Times and Rothenberg Political Report have upgraded their ratings for Arkansas's Second Congressional District from the seat leaning toward Republican nominee Tim Griffin to it being solidly for him.

New York Times Says AR-02 'Solid Republican'. "The Republicans have a candidate with deep connections to the party, Tim Griffin, who has been identified by the National Republican Congressional Committee as a “Young Gun,” or one of the candidates who get special support from the party in races it sees as winnable." Rothenberg Political Report Says Griffin Favored; Predicts 'Substantial' Republican Gains. "We reiterate our view that substantial Republican gains are inevitable and are increasing our target for most likely GOP gains from 25-30 seats to 28-33 seats. However, it is important to note that considerably larger Republican gains in excess of 39 seats are quite possible." ("NEW 2010 House Ratings," Rothenberg Political Report, 7/23/10)

Says Yell County voters want ‘common sense leadership’

LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today lifelong Yell County resident and businessman Greg Bland as his campaign’s Yell County Chairman.

As county chairman, Bland will be the point person for Yell County supporters of Griffin’s campaign to replace outgoing U.S. Rep. Vic Snyder.

Griffin won Yell County in the May 18 Republican Primary with 72% of the vote.

“I am happy to welcome Greg to our team and know he will be a valuable asset as we reach out to all Yell County voters—Democrat, Republican and Independent—who want to elect common sense leadership to Congress,” Griffin said.

“Yell County voters want some common sense coming out of Congress,” Bland said. “I am supporting Tim because I believe he is the best person to represent our values. I am looking forward to working to elect our next congressman, Tim Griffin.”

Bland, a Danville resident, has been involved in the insurance business since 1985 and is currently an agent for Shelter Insurance. A 1981 graduate of Havana High School, Bland earned a degree in agri-business from Arkansas Tech University in 1984. He also holds a master’s degree in business administration.

Bland and his wife Sherry are the parents of four children. He also serves as a pastor for Miracle Outreach Ministries.

Law claims to target Wall Street excesses,
but hits Main Street’s community banks hard

LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today issued the following statement in response to the President signing into law the Dodd-Frank financial regulatory reform bill:

“We can all agree that we need to address the excesses on Wall Street, but this bill misses the mark. The Dodd-Frank financial reform law does little to stop future Wall Street meltdowns and creates many more obstacles to job creation. While Speaker Pelosi and President Obama say the law targets Wall Street, its unintended consequence will be the strangling of community banks on Main Streets throughout Arkansas.

“This law makes it harder for Arkansans and small businesses to obtain credit and invest in new jobs, and the cost of financial services will increase for Arkansas consumers and employers. It is a no-win for our community banks – a vital part of the Arkansas economy and critical to job creation.

“A majority of Arkansas’s House delegation—Democrats and Republican alike—opposed Dodd-Frank. The Second District needs someone who will fight for common sense ideas, not be a reliable yes vote for Speaker Pelosi and President Obama. As your next congressman, I will be a voice for Arkansas consumers and community banks, while addressing the root causes of the financial meltdown—including the failures at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac—which Dodd-Frank ignores.”

Credits Arkansans wanting ‘common sense leadership’ in Congress

LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today announced his campaign has raised more than $1 million to date in his bid to replace outgoing U.S. Rep. Vic Snyder.

Griffin, who announced his candidacy on September 21, 2009, reported raising over $954,000 in his July 15 filing with the Federal Election Commission.

A $50 online contribution to www.TimGriffinForCongress.com from Little Rock is credited for pushing the campaign past the $1 million mark.

“I am humbled by the generosity of Arkansans who want to elect common sense leadership in Congress and have a real check and balance against the job-killing, debt-growing agenda of Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Obama,” Griffin said.

“You can bet that out of state Big Labor bosses and other allies of Speaker Pelosi will do all they can to try and keep the Second District’s seat under her control,” Griffin added. “We will continue to build on our grassroots and financial support through the summer in order to be victorious in November.”

According to Griffin’s second quarter filing, 82% of his donations came from Arkansas donors.

Reports detail 14-year career in U.S. Army Reserve

LITTLE ROCK – Second District Congressional candidate, U.S. Army Reservist and former U.S. Attorney Tim Griffin today released his Officer Evaluation Reports, documents reviewing his 14 years of service in the U.S. Army Reserve as an officer in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps.

The Officer Evaluation Reports detail Griffin’s duties and performance reviews from superior and commanding officers since receiving his direct commission in the U.S. Army Reserve as a First Lieutenant in June 1996.
